What The Hell Is This?

This blog is under construction. Which is a way of saying that I am still thinking about what will go in this space, eventually. I plan on a full launch on 1 January 2007, when a longer-form mission for this--one of oh, maybe 50 billion blogs out there--will be published. Success is by no means assured. But the first step of perhaps thousands has been taken. No turning back now.

One main point to get clear first. The name--almost unpronouncable for people outside the Midwest--does not imply any connection to the town of the same name, situated on the extreme edges of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. In thinking about what this blog will soon be, I thought of some of the greats of the political writing business. There's Publius and Brutus and Poor Richard of the Revolutionary Era. Plato wrote in the name of, and in honor of, Socrates. Eric Blair wrote as George Orwell. And of course, Dear Abby.

So, I thought about it. And there it was. Oconomowoc. Who he is, and what he stands for, will become clear enough, soon enough.

In the meantime, though, happy holidays to you all. (Yes. I am taking the politically incorrect move of denying the existence of the War on Christmas. You don't like it? Too bad, too sad.)
